Skrillex, Zedd, Sebastian Ingrosso and Baauer Teaming Up with Cirque du Soleil to Create Unique Club Experience

Last June, at Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas, Steve Aoki was set to close the mainstage on Saturday with the Blue Man Group. It’s tempting to think that combo – the brash, champagne-spraying DJ and the long-running theatre act – was about as Vegas as you could get (courtesy of a desert wind storm, though, the set never made it to the EDC stage). Well, now there’s a challenger to that crown. Beginning April 26 2013, Las Vegas mainstay Cirque du Soleil will enter the world of ‘EDM’ at a new club, LIGHT, in the Mandalay Bay hotel.

So, who’s joining the circus as residents? Some big-names, in fact, including Zedd, Skrillex, Alesso,Sebastian Ingrosso and Baauer. This would explain why those names were missing from Wynn Casino’s showy club roster. Cirque du Soleil will also be working with Moment Factory, ‘creators of multimedia environments’, on LIGHT.

“The LIGHT Skrillex show is gonna be only in Vegas,” Skrillex told Rolling Stone. “I want it be distinct to the LIGHT club because the configuration is so customisable, it’s fucking crazy. That’s the thing about the club, too: they can do anything, so it’s how you maximize the dynamic of a great show with all their fucking bells and whistles and all of their budgets and resources to do anything.”

“The cool thing is, Zedd’s show is gonna be different than mine; Alesso’s show is gonna be different than Baauer’s,” Skrillex adds. “I’m getting in with these guys on a personal level; we’re designing something that fits the club – and that’s what’s cool about LIGHT, too. Every show is gonna feel like a whole different experience.”

“Swedish House Mafia shows have been something we build for months before a tour,” Ingrosso also told Rolling Stone. “But this is putting the production layers back where this all began: the club dancefloor. This isn’t a huge arena, this is a club, and the vibe in a club is very different and special. This isn’t escalating up, this is it taking it back to the dance floor and we’ll all see where it takes us and enjoy it.”
